The weekend is getting closer in this nice, short work week, and that means hockey fans in Niagara are gearing up for another busy, entertaining weekend.Things get under way on Thursday night at the Meridian Centre, when the  Niagara Icedogs look to pick up their first win of the OHL season when they host the Erie Otters. The Otters are off to another slow start, with an 0-3-1 record. The top two picks from this year’s OHL draft will go head-to-head for the first time, Ryan Roobroeck, who went second overall to the Icedogs, and Matthew Schaefer of the Otters, who went number one after Erie won the draft lottery.

Meanwhile in the GOJHL Thursday night, the Fort Erie Meteors look to build on their fast start to the season when they visit the Hamilton Kilty B’s. Fort Erie has a 7-3 record, good for a third place tie with the Port Colborne Sailors in the Golden Horseshoe Conference. The Kilty B’s are 4-5-1 so far this season
