Taxi Driver Succumbs to His Injury  

The circumstances surrounding the death of a 58-year-old taxi driver in St. Catharines remains under investigation. Just before 4:45 AM Saturday Niagara Regional Police responded to an assist ambulance call on Eastchester Avenue near Lorne Street.  The taxi driver had been found on the ground beside his parked taxi.  The taxi door was open and in the roadway.  The driver was unconscious suffering from a critical injury.   He was transported to an out of region hospital where he has succumbed to his injury. Detectives are appealing to anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 3:00am and 5:00am on September 23, 2023. This is an active and ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances around the incident. It does not appear that this was a robbery or a targeted incident. Prior to the time the cab was located by a passerby the driver was considered status “available”, with no paying passenger.  The incident has been assigned to the Homicide Unit.
