Taxi Driver Found with Critical Injury in St. Catharines – Update 1

The circumstances surrounding the injury to a 58-year-old taxi driver in St. Catharines remains under investigation. Just before 4:45 am Saturday, September 23, Niagara Regional Police responded to an assist ambulance on Eastchester Avenue near Lorne Street.  A taxi driver had been found on the ground beside his parked taxi.  The taxi door was open and in the roadway.  The driver was unconscious suffering from a critical injury.   He was transported to an out of region hospital where he remains in critical condition. Detectives are appealing to anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 3:00am and 5:00am on September 23.  The taxicab was a silver Toyota Camry.The incident has been assigned to the Homicide Unit.
