NRPS Investigating After St. Catharines Crossing Guard Struck by a Vehicle – Update

The investigation into this September 5 collision has been ongoing by the Niagara Regional Police Service. The crossing guard sustained multiple serious injuries and as a result spent several days in hospital.  She is now recovering at home.  On Sunday, October 1, a 22-year-old driver from Hamilton was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm  and fail to remain.  The investigation determined that the 22-year-old defendant had been driving a pickup truck, eastbound on Carlton Street near Haig Street in St. Catharines.  The defendant allegedly made an abrupt left turn northbound onto Haig Street. This turn caused another driver who was heading westbound on Carlton Street to swerve to avoid a collision with the defendant’s vehicle.  As a result, the second vehicle, involved, also a pickup truck, struck the crossing guard who was standing off the roadway.  The defendant did not remain at the scene.
