NRPS Investigating After Pedestrian Fatally Struck in St. Catharines

Emergency services personnel were called at 7 o’clock Thursday night for a report of a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a van at the intersection of Welland Avenue and Vine Street South in St. Catharines. The male pedestrian in his 30s was pronounced deceased at the scene due to his injuries. The initial investigation has determined that the pedestrian had been in the roadway when they were struck by an east bound van. The driver of the van, a 71-year-old St. Catharines man, remained on scene and is co-operating with the investigating officers. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives determine the circumstances leading up to the collision. The intersection of Welland Avenue and Vine Street South had been closed for the investigation but has since re-opened.
