NRPS arrest driver following Port Colborne crash

Niagara Regional Police responded to a report of a single vehicle roll over crash in Port Colborne at 2:50 Tuesday afternoon. Officers arrived on scene with Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and Port Colborne Fire Service. Emergency services personnel located a vehicle off the roadway in a ditch near the intersection of Welland Street and Killaly Street East. The driver was found behind the wheel needing to be extricated from the car. The driver, the lone occupant of the car, was treated for what is believed to be nonlife threatening injuries and transported to a local hospital. The initial investigation determined the driver had been travelling northbound on Welland Street and lost control and then became airborne. The vehicle landed approximately 200 meters north of the initial curb it struck. The vehicle rolled two to three times and came to a stop in a ditch. During the investigation officers formed grounds to believe that the driver was impaired by alcohol and placed him under arrest. 55 year old Wade W. Crawford of Port Colborne has been arrested and charged with impaired operation of conveyance and operation of conveyance over 80 mg. Crawford was later released from custody at the hospital with a future court date. He has also been issued an Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, which prohibits him from operating a motor vehicle for 90 days from date it was issued.
