Niagara Regional Police detectives are investigating after a man was intentionally struck by an SUV in Fort Erie. At 1:53 Monday morning, officers responded to a report of pedestrian having been struck by an SUV on Dufferin Street near Central Avenue. Officers and Niagara EMS paramedics found the male victim in his 30s suffering from critical injuries. Paramedics transported the man initially to a local hospital and then to an out of region hospital. He remains in serious but stable condition with life altering injuries. The initial investigation determined that the victim and another male have been arguing inside a Dufferin Street residence. They both went outside, and the argument continued to escalate. The suspect entered an SUV and ran over the victim and left the area. Officers located the suspect at his residence in the area of Bowden Street and Prow Avenue. At 6:00am, the suspect was arrested, and the residence and SUV were held pending a search warrant. 33 year-old Moses Balabyekkubo of Fort Erie has been charged with aggravated assault, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle – Cause Bodily Harm and fail to stop after accident resulting in bodily harm. He was also charged with six offences under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. Balabyekkubo was held in custody for a video bail hearing on Monday, and was ordered held in custody. His next court date is Thursday. Detectives executed a search warrant in relation the SUV and the accused residence and seized offence related property.
