Driver Arrested for Impaired Operation After Collision with Pelham House

Niagara Regional Police are investigating after a car collided with a house in Pelham. Emergency service personnel responded at 1:27 AM Monday to a residence on Welland Road near Haist Street following reports that a pickup truck had struck the house. The truck was occupied solely by the driver. The residence housed a family of six people. All parties were assessed by paramedics, and none of the residents of the home were physically injured. NRPS officers found the driver attempting to flee on foot through the hole created by the truck and in speaking with the driver, formed grounds to believe he was impaired by alcohol. Empty liquor bottles were found inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested and subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of what is believed to be minor injuries. 48 year old Timothy John Climenhaga of Wainfleet has been arrested and faces impaired driving charges and a charge of driving while under suspension. The damage to the home is believed to be major, and an estimate is not available. The house has been deemed unsafe at this time.
