Emergency personnel responded to the area of Prince Charles Drive and Fitch Street in Welland around noon Wednesday regarding a motor vehicle collision. A Niagara Regional Police investigation revealed that an 83 year old male was operating a Chevrolet Trax with an 81 year old female passenger. The Trax attempted to make a right hand turn onto Prince Charles Drive when a 55 year old male who was driving a Chevrolet Silvarado north on Prince Charles Drive collided with the Trax. The Trax then hit a pole. The driver of the Trax was air lifted to an out of town hospital and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the Trax was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Silvarado suffered minor physical injuries. Detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit have taken carriage of the investigation.
