Statue to be removed from City Hall

A statue will soon be leaving the  grounds at St. Catharines city hall. The monument to Private Alexander Watson and those who fought in the Northwest Resistance will be removed from the corner of Church and James Streets, but City staff still have to figure out where to move it to. One option is to transfer the monument to Victoria Lawn Cemetery where Watson is buried. The statue could be removed within the next six months. Private Watson fought and died during the conflict in 1885, which some people have complained is an example of the government trampling on the rights of indigenous peoples.
