Paint-a-Plow contest a success!

This fall Niagara Region extended an opportunity to select schools to participate in its first ever ‘Paint-a-Snowplow’ contest. In late October the Region delivered a snowplow to each participating school and students had two weeks to turn their plow into a work of art, expressing their creativity and school spirit through their designs. Last Friday, invited guest judges, which included regional and local municipal councillors, visited each participating school to evaluate the entries. After careful consideration St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School in Niagara-on-the-Lake was declared the winning entry of Niagara Region’s 2023 ‘Paint-a-Snowplow’ contest. The painted plows will be used throughout the winter season and the winners of the contest will have the opportunity to name the plow truck for the season as well as and have their plow be part of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Christmas Parade. As this was Niagara Region’s first year piloting the ‘Paint-a-Snowplow’ program a limited number of schools in one municipality were selected to test out the logistics on a small scale. Based on the successful results from this year, the Region will be looking at the potential of extending opportunities to enter the contest throughout Niagara in future years.
